2016 Central Michigan Football Recruiting: DB Alonzo McCoy commits to the Chippewas

One-time Toledo commit, 3-star DB Alonzo McCoy announced on Monday evening that he will be attending CMU.

John Bonamego and his staff landed a potential impact recruit on Monday evening in defensive back Alonzo McCoy.

McCoy committed to Toledo in March, however announced his decision to de-commit from Toledo on Twitter this afternoon.

He announced his commitment to CMU a few hours later.

Shortly after his announcement, McCoy discussed his commitment with Hustle Belt.

"I feel like its my home away from home. It feels like family there. There is a sense of comfort there. Even though I was committed to Toledo, Coach Bonamego and the whole coaching staff treated me like I was one of their own. I have nothing against Toledo but I felt that Central was the best fit for me."

McCoy is rated a 3-star recruit by 247Sports and reports offers from Army, Buffalo, Cincinnati, EMU, Navy, Temple, Bowling Green, Toledo, and Ohio.

Although McCoy is considered a highly regarded recruit, yet expects a lot of himself and hopes to be a role model both on and off the field.

"I just hope to become a better young man that little kids can look up to and say want to be like me one day. That's on and off the field."

McCoy is an extremely talented player and is one who will compete for early playing time once he arrives in Mount Pleasant. McCoy joins 3-star DE Leon Page and QB Tony Poljan as headliners of this strong CMU recruiting class. For a full list of CMU recruits, check out our database.
