On Thursday evening, DE Logan Speyer was the first to commit to Miami's 2017 recruiting class, which should be yet another solid class for the RedHawks.

Speyer announced his decision on his Twitter page.

Speyer currently attends Arlington HS located in Ohio where he plays both tight end and defensive end. He will line up on defense for the RedHawks. As a junior, he was an All-BVC conference selection and looks to expand on his success as a senior.

In a recent conversation with Hustle Belt Speyer explained why Miami is the right fit for him.

"There was a lot of reasons Miami was the right place for me. Their academics are superior to everywhere else around, their coaches have the program on the right track, and [the] tradition that Miami has is up there with the top in the nation. When they offered, I realized they had everything, there was no need to wait."

While Speyer still has his senior year of high school to play, he still has put some thought into a few goals he would like to accomplish while in Oxford.

"The biggest goal is to win a MAC championship, and I think with the players they have coming in the '16 class [we] can accomplish that. Off the field, if I could get a degree in business from the Farmer School of Business that would just set me up for success later in life."
