Chuck Martin and the Miami RedHawks didn't just pick up a verbal pledge from three-star offensive tackle Chris Glaser on Saturday, they also locked up a commitment from a under-the-radar linebacker. While on the Miami campus, St. Louis, Missouri native and Parkway North High School soon-to-be senior standout Ryan Newton walked away as the fourth member of the RedHawks class of 2017.

While Miami might have been his only FBS scholarship offer, a number of FCS programs gave Newton a chance to suit up for their football squad. Illinois State, Southeast Missouri State, and Tennessee Tech were a few of the other teams after the 6'3, 230-pounder before his commitment to Martin, and the RedHawks.
One of the key leaders on defense for Parkway North last season, Newton accounted for 112 total tackles, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and a quarterback sack to help lead the Vikings to an overall record of 7-5 and a state playoff berth. His play on the field didn't go unnoticed, as he was not only named All-District, and All-Conference, but also All-State.
