Northern Illinois received a verbal commitment from local defensive back Dexter Warren. The news that NIU landed a commitment did not come as too much of a surprise as coach Carey tweeted this out over the weekend.

It took a few days for us to find out who exactly this mysterious commit was, however now we know coach Carey was referencing Warren. Warren broke the news on his Twitter page Monday afternoon.
Blessed to say I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Northern Illinois University #TheHardWay ⚪️ pic.twitter.com/hirXv23PYG

Warren is a local product, hailing from Phillips Academy in Chicago. He chose the Huskies over reported offers from Central Michigan and Ball State.
He stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs 165 pounds and helped lead Phillips to a state championship last season. Warren is rated a 2-star recruit by Scout.
After watching his junior highlights, Warren looks like a ball-hawking safety who excels in jump ball situations and possesses above average hands for a safety. It will be interesting to see how Warren develops going into his senior year as he is yet another intriguing, under-the-radar prospect for the Huskies.
