2017 Western Michigan Football Recruiting: OL John Schmitz commits to the Broncos

WMU landed its 9th recruit from the state of Illinois over the weekend.

Western Michigan landed its 17th verbal commitment for their 2017 recruiting class last week from OL John Schmitz. They seem to be recruiting the state of Illinois harder, or at least mo re successfully than in previous years. This is now their ninth recruit from Illinois to commit to the Broncos.

Schmitz announced his decision last week via his Twitter account.

Schmitz chose the Broncos over reported offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, CMU, Colorado State, Cincinnati,  Louisville, Miami, and Wyoming.

He currently attends Homewood-Flossmoor which is located in Flossmoor, Illinois. He is the fifth offensive lineman to join the 2017 class. Despite playing offensive guard for HF, it will be interesting to see if he moves to a different position along the line when he arrives in Kalamazoo.

Schmitz ranks as a 3-star recruit according to 247Sports and Scout. He is the 12th 3-star recruit to join this class according to 247Sports. This recruiting class currently ranks 20th in the nation as well.
