Business is starting to pick up in Oxford as Toledo Central Catholic (OH) linebacker/safety Dallas Fields announced his decision to commit to Miami on Tuesday.
The two-star recruit is not short on accolades as he was named to the All-State First Team in his junior season as he helped guide his team all the way to the state semifinals. Fields also held offers from Army, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Ohio, and Western Michigan.
Standing at 6’1” and 210 lbs., Fields has the frame to put on some weight and move on down to LB at the college level and could possibly be enough of an athlete to a heavier nickel back on early downs. Judging from his Hudl film (which you can see below), he’s got good enough hands to shed blockers, has some nice burst to the football, and finishes tackles well. The only real concern with him is his upper body strength vs. college offensive linemen, which can be remedied in a strong strength and conditioning program (which Miami has).
Fields is the fifth commit of the 2018 recruiting class for the RedHawks, and the first one so far on defense as Miami now finds itself in third place in the MAC recruiting rankings and 55th nationally per 247Sports.com. Time will tell if the Red and White are able to get their targets and stay near the top of the MAC, but the 2018 class looks like it will be a pretty promising group.
