Half: Toledo Leads Bowling Green 21-7, Bad Penalties

The Bowling Green Falcons scored before the first half expired, but not before the Toledo Rockets put two more en route to a 21-7 lead at the break.

The Rockets have been known for taking bad penalties at bad times, but the Falcons were guilty of two brutal penalties midway through the quarter. The Falcons had stopped the Rockets first drive of the quarter to set up a 35 yard field goal. Jeremiah Detmer's kick was true, which would have been the first field goal the Falcons had given up all season... but a defender hit Detmer late, and the refs awarded a roughing the kicker penalty to give the Rockets another chance on first and goal. The Falcons again stopped Toledo on a 3rd and Goal from the 13, but an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Cameron Truss gave the Rockets another set of downs, and Owens would hit Alonzo Russell for a TD pass. Toledo would build on that lead with another TD pass, this time Owens would hit Bernard Reedy from 9 yards out.

Bowling Green finally got on the board before the half expired on a 12 play, 81 yard drive. Travis Green broke off a 21 yard run to get the Falcons into the Red Zone, and Matt Johnson capped it off on a 1 yard TD run on 3rd down.

On the stat sheet, Toledo leads in total yards 212 to 156, but the Falcons have the better passing game so far, 84 to 58. Kareem Hunt already has 75 yards on 11 carries for the Rockets, while Johnson is the leading rusher for the Falcons, 37 yards on 7 carries.
