FINAL: Toledo Beats Bowling Green 28-25

Holy Toledo!

The Toledo Rockets mounted an epic late fourth quarter drive to take a 28-25 lead with under two minutes to go, and held on to knock off the Bowling Green Falcons on the road.

Toledo jumped out to an early 21-0 lead in the second quarter, only to find itself giving up 25 unanswered points and trailing the Falcons by four with under six minutes to go. Terrance Owens mounted a 70-yard drive, getting the Rockets in the redzone, before a series of penalties forced a 3rd and 25 from about the 30. A long scramble by Owens set up a 4th down touchdown pass to Alonzo Russell to regain the lead for Toledo with 1:22 left in the game.

Matt Johnson and the Falcons tried to move the ball down the field, but a key drop and some incomplete passes sealed the victory for the Rockets, keeping the Battle of I-75 Trophy in Toledo for another year and Johnson walked off the field with his head hanging.

Owens was huge, going 15 of 23 with 130 yards and three scores in the game. It was his first multi-touchdown performance of the season. His grit and leadership helped showed, especially on that final drive.

Kareem Hunt added 114 yards and a score on the ground for the Rockets, filling in for injured starter David Fluellenwho left in the first quarter with an ankle injury.

Johnson had 208 yards but was held without a passing touchdown, as his lone score came on a run. Travis Greene led Bowling Green in rushing with 96 yards and two scores.
