Ohio vs. Miami (Ohio): The Bobcats Terrorized the RedHawks In A 41-16 Win

On HallOUween in Athens, Ohio, there were plenty of monsters out and about, but none so scary as the Ohio Bobcats offense which terrorized the visiting Miami RedHawks in a 41-16 beatdown.

In the 90th installment of the Battle of the Bricks, Ohio dominated its rival, putting up 535 yards of total offense and winning the game for the seventh time in the last eight seasons. The RedHawks clawed their way into midway through the second quarter cutting the 'Cats lead to just four, but it was short lived. Ohio scored twice right before the half—a touchdown and a field goal with under four minutes to play—putting the game firmly in the Bobcats control. Ohio notched another field goal in the third and had a pair of rushing touchdowns in the fourth to put it away and exact its revenge for a loss on the road at Miami a year ago.

Ohio leapt out to an early lead with the dynamic duo of Tyler Tettleton and Donte Foster providing all fireworks. The senior quarterback-receiver combo had a historical game, each passing career milestones in the first half. Tettleton became the first Ohio quarterback to throw for 8,000 career yards early on in the game. He hooked up with Foster three times in the first half giving Foster the Ohio career touchdown receptions record.

Foster finished the game with eight catches for 122 yards and three scores and Tettlteon completed 68 percent of his passes for 306 yards and those three scores.

Miami's defense wasn't the only unit struggling. The RedHawks offense looked sloppy and lost. Three different quarterbacks saw action by the end of the first half, as the team struggled to average more than three yards a play. In fact both 'Hawks touchdowns came off of short yardage opportunities provided by Ohio mistakes. Austin Boucher tossed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Dustin White to cap off a 40-yard drive in the second quarter, and third string quarterback Drew Kummer scored on a 3-yard touchdown run to cap off a 4-play 6-yard drive after an Ohio fumble in the fourth quarter.

Ohio's defense had little problem penetrating the line, accumulating seven sacks on the day causing pressure that led to things like Travis Carrie's interception of Boucher in the second quarter. The 'Cats held the RedHakws to 240 total yards, while Zac Murphy continued his record breaking pace, punting seven times for 369 yards.

With Ohio pummeling Miami from both sides, it was over well before the clock hit zero. Running back Beau Blankenship hadn't cracked 100-yards all season after doing so 10 times a year ago, but Saturday he exploded for 172 yards on 20 carries to lead the 'Cats rushing attack.Ryan Boykin added another 52 yards and a score and backup quarterback Derrius Vick ran one in in the fourth.

With the win Ohio became bowl eligible for the sixth straight season while handing the 'Hawks their 12th consecutive loss. It also improved the Bobcats to .500 all time for the first time since the 1980s.

The 'Cats have a bye-week next week, before starting weeknight MAC play with back-to-back games at Buffalo and at Bowling Green. The RedHawks are also off next week.
