Zurlon Tipton and the Central Michigan Chippewas blasted the Eastern Michigan Eagles 42-10.The victory allows the Chips to get control of the coveted Michigan MAC trophy.
Tipton scored four times. His longest run of the game was an 86 yard touchdown which was also a career long touchdown run.
The Eagles had seized control of momentum late in the second quarter behind star running back Bronson Hill. However, Courtney Williams stole momentum back for the Chips with a 84 yard touchdown return to start the second half.
The Eagles were proficient between the twenty yard lines and actually out gained the Chippewas at the half. However, the CMU defense came up with several big plays to thwart any effort by EMU to score in the second half. No play was bigger for the CMU defense than senior Avery Cunningham's Pick 6 in the fourth quarter that put the game out of reach. Cunningham streaked down the sidelines after intercepting EMU quarterback Brogan Roback and raced 75 yards for a touchdown. CMU now has Pick 6's in its last three games.
CMU now has to wait to see if it gets a bowl invitation after improving its record to 6-6. The hapless Eagles fall to 2-10 with the loss.
