BG defeats NIU 47-27 As Matt Johnson Stars In Record Setting Performance

The torch has been passed at the Marathon MAC Championship Game at Ford Field on Friday Night in Detroit. Bowling Green quarterback Matt Johnson put on an offensive clinic and took apart the vaunted NIU Huskies in record breaking impressive fashion.

Johnson set a MAC Championship record by passing for five touchdowns en route to a drubbing of Jordan Lynch and the nationally ranked Northern Illinois Huskies. To add insult to injury, Lynch was intercepted twice by the Bowling Green defense. The key play of the game occurred when Lynch was intercepted by Falcon safety Aaron Foster. Foster returned the pick 37 yards and set up a Bowling Green touchdown which sealed the game and gave Falcons a 40-20 lead late in the fourth quarter.

The heir apparent to future MAC leadership, Matt Johnson finished the game going 21 for 27 in passing for five touchdowns and no interceptions. Johnson won the game for BG by using savvy normally found in a veteran quarterback and surprising speed which gave the Falcons the decisive advantage.

Travis Green finished the game with 26 carries for 133 yards and one touchdown. Ronnie Moore was the star of the first quarter for BG with four catches for 145 yards.
