According to Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated, Bowling Green Falcons head coach Dave Clawson interviewed on Sunday for the open head coaching position at Wake Forest. Wake Forest's athletic director Ron Wellman, who is a graduate of Bowling Green State University, was in attendance at the Mid-American Conference Championship Game on Friday. He had already interviewed Ball St. Cardinals head coach Pete Lembo earlier in the week.
Thamel states that a decision should be made by Monday night. In other words, we should know within the next 24 hours.
It seems clear that Wake Forest will hire one of the two men, but which one remains up in the air. Lembo has had great success at Ball State, but Clawson built his stock significantly over the last month and capped that with the 47-27 win over then-undefeated Northern Illinois on Friday.
Both Clawson and Lembo will apparently have other opportunities if Wake Forest chooses the other. Thamel states that the Connecticut Huskies have shown interest in Lembo and that an interview could happen within the next few days. UConn fired Paul Pasqualoni after the Huskies started 0-4. At the end of the article, Thamel reveals that Boise State officials have reached out to Clawson within the last few days, but no interview has been set up. Chris Petersen left Boise State last week to become the new head coach of the Washington Huskies.
Ball State will play in the GoDaddy.com Bowl in four weeks. Bowling Green now has just 18 days until it plays Pittsburgh in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.
