UMass (0-5, 0-1 MAC East) and Miami (0-5, 0-1 MAC East) look to each snap losing streaks that date back to at least last year when they meet early this afternoon.
UMass comes in looking for their first victory since beating these same RedHawks 17-10 on October 12 of last year in Foxboro. In the time since UMass has come very close on several occasions, losing five of the eleven game skid by less than a touchdown. UMass quarterback Blake Frohnapfel threw for 589 yards in a 47-42 loss to Bowling Green a week ago. Those numbers through the air are good enough for the best single game passing performance in the FBS this season. He rifled the ball over 60 times on the day, completing 36 passes, more than one-third of his total completions on the year. He also added five touchdowns and just one interception.
Miami will be a tougher test for the Minutemen passing attack, though. The RedHawk defense is led by corner Quinten Rollins, who currently stacks up in the top five of all FBS players in picks. Miami has shown much improvement even with the 0-5 record on the season, losing three of those five by just one score, including a performance that included a 31-24 loss to Cincinnati two weeks prior.
This is the third-ever meeting between the Minutemen and the RedHawks with Miami taking the 2012 meeting and UMass taking last year's affair.
