The next chapter in the Western-Central rivalry will happen this weekend as once again the Broncos and the Chippewas face each other in the Battle For the Cannon. This year's game will be in Mt. Pleasant, where the Victory Cannon currently resides after the Chippewas beat Western last year 27-22.
Western enters the game at 7-3, with a 5-1 MAC record. Last week they demolished another in-state rival, Eastern Michigan, 51-7. Central is 5-2 in the MAC and 7-4 overall. Last week Central handled Miami at home, beating the RedHawks 34-27.
While this game is always a huge game for both schools, there are other implications from the results of this year's match up. WMU needs to win to stay alive in the race for the top of the MAC West. While Central has already been eliminated from contention for the trip to Detroit, they're still fighting for a better bowl position. Plus both schools, ya know, freaking hate each other.
