The return of Midweek MACtion kicks off with a two game slate on Tuesday and two more on Wednesday. The Akron Zips host the Bowling Green Falcons on Tuesday, and fifteen miles to the northeast, Kent State hosts Toledo. I think we know which of those two games will be better. The Zips and the Falcons are both taking part in a four way battle for a MAC East championship and a trip to Detroit. That is what makes it the game to watch on Tuesday night.
The Bowling Green Falcons come into the game as the sole team atop the MAC East with an overall record of 5-3 and a MAC record of 3-1. The Falcons are coming off of a bye week. Their last game ended in defeat as the Western Michigan Broncos won in Bowling Green on October 18 by a score of 26-14. Defense has been the biggest problem for Dino Babers' Falcons this year as they have only held an FBS team under fourteen points once. The offense has lived up to its name FalconFast for most of the year as they have never scored fewer than fourteen. The Falcon offense will be tested greatly against the pride of the Akron Zips, Chuck Amato's defense.
Akron comes into the game in second place in the MAC East with an overall record of 4-4 and a MAC record of 2-2. Quarterback Kyle Pohl will return to action for the first time since he went down with a head injury against Miami on October 11. Akron lost both of its games without Pohl. Tommy Woodson was the starter for those games and showed his inexperience in the losses. The defense has cooled off a little bit over the past two games as well. If the defense can keep FalconFast in check, the Zips have a good chance to win this one.
Bowling Green leads the all time series 13-7, and has won the last 5.
