UMass continues to keep familiar faces within the program as it is bringing in Charles Walker to join the staff as the outside linebackers coach. Walker was previously the defensive quality control coach at Vanderbilt. The news was first reported by Chris Smith of Vandy.247sports.com.

Walker is a former linebacker at UMass and a team captain in 2007. He finished his career with 340 tackles, including a 23 tackle performance in 2004 which is tied for the school record.
UMass returns all of their linebackers from last season, so Walker will have an experienced group to coach. Depending on if the team decides to go with a 4-3 or 3-4 front, look for Jovan Santos-Knox, Shane Huber, Steve Casail and Kassan Messiah to compete for the starting outside linebacker spots.
