Akron Teases New Matte Blue Helmets

Terry Bowden is quickly becoming a must-follow on Twitter despite having only a handful of tweets to his name. The Akron Zips head football coach teased fans with photos of potential new gold uniforms in March, and today he showed off a new matte blue helmet his Zips could be rocking this fall (complete with terrible photoshop action!)

It's no secret I wasn't a fan of the gaudy looking gold helmets, but these blue helmets are fantastic. They're crisp, simple, and feature a giant "Z" emblem that pops on the matte finish.

If Akron is really looking to mix up its uniforms with some fresh new alternate looks, heading more towards this direction is the way to go.
