Not content with having six quarterbacks on the roster, Mark Whipple decided to add one more to the Massachusetts Minutemen's roster. Except this time, he went a bit closer to home. Austin Whipple, Mark Whipple's son, left Penn State in order to play for the Minutemen.
While Penn State is a prestigious football university, or at least was before they became a national punch line in 2011, the Minutemen faithful shouldn't get their hopes up. Austin Whipple was a walk-on at Penn State in 2013, possibly as a friendly gesture between Bill O'Brien and Mark Whipple.
While the younger Whipple did win a Class A championship for his Connecticut High School, he averaged only 160 yards passing in those games. Rivals and 247Sports did not bother rating Whipple.
Don't be mistaken though, this is still feel good story. Mark Whipple and his son get to coach/play together on the same team, and if that doesn't bring a smile to your face, go watch Field of Dreams. But come the fall, it's still a three-headed race between Stafford, Frohnapfel and (please god no) A.J. Doyle.
