College Football Rankings: 2014 Preseason AP Poll Released

Stacy Revere

The 2014 preseason AP Poll was released Sunday afternoon, another sign that football is near. The poll, which has no impact on the new college football playoff, is meaningless in the grand scheme of things now, but it's tradition, and college football fans love tradition.

As expected Florida State came in at No. 1 with 57 first-place votes. The Seminoles won the BCS National Championship this past season, and with Heisman trophy winner Jameis Winston, they appear ready for another big season. Alabama, Oregon, Oklahoma and Ohio State round out the Top 5.

No Mid-American Conference teams made the Top 25, or even received a vote in this preseason poll, but there are a few squads in this poll that MAC teams will be facing this fall. Buffalo welcomes No. 10 Baylor to town on Sep. 12. Toledo welcomes No. 24 Missouri on Sep. 6. BGSU heads to No. 14 Wisconsin this fall, Kent State heads into No. 5 Ohio State's house too. Eastern Michigan takes on No. 8 Michigan State in East Lansing on Sep. 20.
