Akron Zips vs. Bowling Green Falcons football: How to watch, listen, stream, and more

Today may be the day that we find out if Akron can contend in the MAC East this year.

Nick Cammett-USA TODAY Sports

You may not find a more efficient offense in the nation than that of the Bowling Green Falcons (4-2, 2-0 MAC). They host a team with one of the most reliable defenses in the Akron Zips (3-3, 1-1 MAC). Each are coming off of wins last week of 24+ points, as the Falcons punched UMass 62-38 and the Zips cruised 47-21 against Eastern Michigan.

Bowling Green has looked dynamite all year with Matt Johnson leading Dino Babers' FalconFast offense. They call it FalconFast because they are third in the country at nearly 90 offensive plays per game. Bowling Green would easily be the best team in the MAC if they didn't give up over 36 points per game on defense. Johnson leads the country in passing yards and his number one target Roger Lewis leads the country in receiving yards.

The Akron Zips probably won't be as easy an opponent as the Minutemen of Massachusetts. Quarterback Thomas Woodson has given the Zips new life on offense, as they scored 40 in the first half last week at Eastern Michigan with four touchdown throws in the first half. With Jerome Lane to throw to and Conor Hundley to hand it off to, the Zip offense looks to be getting better each week. The team strength is on defense, though, as the front seven may be one of the best that Matty J and crew face all year.

There are a lot of matchups that could make this one a really fun game to watch.

Hustle Belt's game preview can be found here.

Players to watch

Akron WR Jerome Lane: Lane is a huge target at 6-foot-4 230lb. and is beginning to develop good hands. He made four catches on as many targets last week, including two touchdowns. Even with double coverage, Lane is big enough to make catches because of his size and strength.

Akron defensive front: Havoc. That's what the Zips defensive front must cause to throw Matt Johnson out of a rhythm. Don't be surprised if Jerome Lane makes a few appearances here, as he made 3 sacks against the Falcons last year, when he played on defense only.

Bowling Green RB Travis Greene: Passing isn't the only thing the Falcons are good at. Greene helps keep balance in the FalconFast offense by averaging over five yards per carry. He's also made 15 catches out of the backfield, so he's a great weapon for Johnson & co. to have at their disposal.

Bowling Green WR Roger Lewis: The receiver with the most yards in the country has been able to do so because the guy throwing it to him leads the nation in passing yards. Lewis will almost certainly be the primary focus by the Akron secondary, and that may not matter because of how good he is.
