College Football Playoff Rankings: Toledo comes in at 24

The College Football Playoff committee has spoken with their first rankings of the year: Toledo comes in at 24.

No. 20 Toledo Rockets (7-0, 4-0 Mid-American Conference) crack the College Football Playoff ranking with their hot start, coming in at 24. The Rockets are the first team from the MAC to make it into the CFP rankings since its birth last year.

The Rockets won 16-12 in their season opener (actual opener against Stony Brook was cancelled after one half of play) against a then-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks team. That is heavily argued to be the Rockets best win of the season, Arkansas currently sits at 4-4. Toledo's ranking in the twenties lines up with just about all other polls in rankings, sitting at 20 in both AP and Amway Coaches polls, 26 in the Massey ratings and 20 in the S&P ratings.

Toledo won over Iowa State in overtime 30-23, then followed up with a big 30-point blowout over Arkansas State in a rematch from last year's bowl game. After starting 4-0 playing weaker MAC teams, Toledo's about to go face off the really difficult part of their season with games against Northern Illinois, Central Michigan, Bowling Green and Western Michigan.
