Six MAC Women's teams keep their seasons alive with postseason berths

Buffalo welcomed a 14-seed in the NCAA Tournament, while five other MAC schools made the WNIT on Selection Monday.

Over 24 hours after the Buffalo men knew their first round matchup, the Buffalo women found out where they would be playing their first tournament game.

It's not ideal, but the Bulls will face off against the No. 3 seed Ohio State Buckeyes (24-7) at Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The Buckeyes are the highest-seeded team out of the Big Ten Conference, which sent five schools to the 64-team tournament.

Eastern Michigan, Ball State, Central Michigan, Akron and Ohio all earned bids to the WNIT on Monday night, one less than the six MAC teams that were included in last season's tournament.

EMU will travel to the west coast on Thursday night to take on St. Mary's, while Ball State will travel to hostile ground in Iowa City to take on the Big Ten's Iowa Hawkeyes. Central Michigan will host the Summit League's IUPUI Jaguars on Thursday and Akron will host Bucknell of the Patriot League on the same night. Ohio will host bitter rival Marshall on Thursday night.

If Akron and CMU win each of their first two games, they'll meet up in the WNIT's round of 16.

No MAC schools received bids to the Women's Basketball Invitational.
