The second MAC player off the board, Tajae Sharpe is the 140th overall pick by the Tennessee Titans to open up the fifth round. The Titans have had an interesting draft, taking Jack Conklin (OL- Michigan State) with their 8th overall pick, followed up by Kevin Dodd (DE- Clemson), Austin Johnson (DT- Penn State), Heisman trophy winner Derrick Henry (RB- Alabama) and Kevin Byard (S- Middle Tennessee State).
Sharpe has been nothing short of a difference maker for the Massachusetts Minutemen. In his four years at Amherst, he caught 277 passes for 2,486 yards (74.2 yards per game) with 16 touchdowns. The 6-foot-3 receiver has had at least 11 receptions in 10 games over the course of his career; had a career-high 15 receptions (159 yards, 1 TD) in UMass first win of his senior season. His junior season may have been his most impressive, via the statistics. He averaged 15.1 yards per catch on 85 receptions, including three games where he had 13 receptions for 179 (vs. Bowling Green), 193 (vs. Eastern Michigan) and 239 (vs. Ball State) yards. He followed that up with a senior year where he caught the ball 111 times, en route a second straight First Team All-MAC selection.
Unfortunately missing an opportunity to play in the Reese's Senior Bowl with an injury, he recovered and impressed a lot of scouts with the athletic display he had at the NFL Scouting Combine.
