Matt Falcon is an obvious one, but who else is worth getting excited about around the MAC?

The right pick up can make all the difference to a program. Same goes for your rental car experience. Pick Enterprise and see how we go the extra mile for our customers every day.

***

RB Matt Falcon- WMU

Two injuries really hurt his high school career. Had those never even happened, he'd probably be getting all the attention from our friends over at Maize-N-Brew. Instead, one of the nation's top running back prospects will be playing at Kalamazoo, giving the WMU signing class a major boost. He'll need to overcome a lot and fans should be weary, but it's also worth being optimistic for his collegiate future too.

RB Shakif Seymour- Toledo

I don't know if he'll even see the field this year. I just know that when he does see the field, he's going to be one tough cookie to bring down. Good sized frame, ideal speed out of the backfield. Had three 1,000-plus yard seasons with 56 total scores in high school, so you could say that he's used to being productive.

DL Ben LeRoy- NIU

I was told that Northern Illinois gives absolutely zero cares for star ratings, so they go try to find the players that have the least of those but still a butt load of talent. LeRoy might only be a 2-star prospect, but he's going to be a stud on the Huskies defensive front soon enough.

WR Stori Emerson- Miami

I've no doubt that Chuck Martin's going to have himself one heck of a defense to work with in Oxford with Speaight and Shepard coming into the mix this year, but the Miami offense is still a problem that needs some fixing. Maybe Emerson can be that difference maker at receiver that the RedHawks have been needing.

DB Ohaji Hawkins- EMU

Of course I'm going to throw an Eagle into this post, you didn't think I'd do this any other way, did you? This guy wasn't on my radar at all, so it was a great Signing Day surprise to see. The former Utah commit should be a huge help for the Eagles secondary which they already needed some help in. Switching to a 4-2-5 defense this year means that he certainly could earn some early playing time.

What say you? Who are you looking forward to see play on Saturdays (and Tuesdays)(and Wednesdays)?

Could Justin Agner help fix Kent State's offense?

There hasn't been much to talk about with Kent State football ever since the 2012 season. Entering Paul Haynes' fourth season as the Golden Flashes head coach, 247Sports gives his most recent signing class a poor grade: 12th (out of 13, they still count UMass for this one) in the MAC and 138 nationally.

I think if I'm going to really highlight one player that could certainly help out the Flashes in a big way is Justin Agner. Agner was once with Air Force but left in January and enrolled in classes at Kent State in January.

Running back Justin Rankin has also already enrolled in classes at Kent State, who Haynes really likes for his speed. Getting speedy skilled players is what the Flashes wanted to get after with recruiting, grabbing other track stars Kavious Price and Mike Carrigan. Wide receiver Trey Harrel provides the most reach at 6-foot-1 and earned all-state honors in Louisiana.

Only one linebacker in the signing class (Dalton Hicks), but the Flashes were able to get plenty of help in the secondary.Safety Akeam Peters is the highest-rated player in the class and others to be included in the Kent State secondary are Miles Daniel from Oak Park, Michigan (no. 66 in the state), Mandela Lawrence-Burke, and Jamal Parker Jr.

Two offensive linemen in Zach Corrigall and Adam Gregoire, both from Ohio will look to help improve the Kent State rushing attack (3.6 yards/carry last year) by opening up some holes for the running backs. Corrigall was an all-state performer and was part of two state championship teams in high school. Gregoire was also an All-Ohio selection and was a team captain in high school.

The Ohio Bobcats were towards the bottom of the NCAA in terms of their recruiting rankings according to one site, something that actually has happened to several MAC teams in recent years. Is this class enough to keep them up to par for the next few years?

Come to Appalachia you warriors! Your gridiron destiny awaits. Frank Solich's staff at Ohio University has a steady formula of attracting talented but not out-of-this-world athletic freaks. The guys that the Bobcats end up with on recruiting day are molded into respectable athletes who make tangible contributions to the team over whatever amount of years they stay in Athens. The Bobcats had far from the MAC's best class. According to 247 sports, their national ranking was 113th in the country.

Without any further delay, let's get to the signees for the Ohio Bobcats.

No Quarterbacks or Running Backs?

It was peculiar to run down the signing days recruits and see no signees at skill positions like quarterback and running back. It would be a bit hasty to panic about this fact given the number of players that the Bobcats have at these two positions, though it wouldn't be silly to question the depth that the Bobcats have at the position. In a press conference today, coach Frank Solich noted that the Bobcats weren't able to get a quarterback that they wanted, but they were pretty much content with what they have at the position. He noted that the same went for running backs.

BIGGUNS

"The thing that I like about the guys that are there, the five offensive lineman... five defensive lineman, they are ready to go," Solich said. Solich added that he thinks nearly every lineman that the 'Cats picked will be ready to play immediately in terms of physical maturity and strength.

On the offensive side, Felipe Fernandez, Adam Notestine, Sean Beadle, Taeshon Trotter and others made up a humongous group of guys that Solich seemed pleased to pick up. 300 pounders EVERYWHERE.

Defensively, William Evans is a guy that will be asked to bulk a bit and will likely contribute immensely in the future at defensive end. Kevin Strobel is another Ohio guy (Mentor) and a grad transfer defensive lineman from Michigan who will be asked to contribute immediately.

Ohio is theirs. They are Ohio.

Note: The Bobcats don't clean house or anything in Ohio, but they are are set on accumulating a wealth of talent from the state. Per usual, they scavenged high and low to get talents from urban and rural areas all over the state. The prized fruits of Ohio (and yes, we are speaking of high school kids this way aren't we)? Of Ohio's 25 signees, 15 were from in-state.

Ohio picked up super-talented players in the secondary and at the wide receiver position, as well a grad transfer from the Cleveland area, Kevin Houchins Jr., a safety from Louisville.

At defensive back, pickups like Houchins, safety three-star talent Tyler Tupa, and Junior College transfer London Miller are likely able to help soon. A peculiar duo in twins Xavier and Illyaas Motley come in unranked but somewhat hyped from Centerville high school. Solich noted that both of them would need to bulk up before seeing the field.

As for the future MAC wreckers at the wide receiver position, Keevon Harris was a prized three-star recruit. The LaBrae standout is a lengthy, explosive athlete from a small town high school called LaBrae in Leavittsburg Ohio. Just watching his game-tape it's obvious even against smaller school talent that he's destined to be a playmaker even though he seems raw. He was recruited by the likes of Northwestern, Nebraska, and Iowa according to 247 Sports, and that's in addition to several MAC schools. Cameron Odom is another three-star guy from Bedford High School, a place that Ohio football has a pipeline to. The Cleveland area in general is a hotbed for guys coming to OU, and this particular guy has 4.45 speed.

Elsewhere, talented players like outside backer Jared Dorsa, tight end Austin Conrad and more are poised to make early impacts.

22 players make up Toledo's class.

Once Matt Campbell (and many others from the Toledo Rockets' staff) left for Iowa State and Jason Candle moved up from OC to head coach, covering for recruiting for Toledo went from a lot of fun to a whole lot of fun. Players flipped there, players changed their minds to go elsewhere, then some of those players turned back to stay with Toledo. In any case, the Rockets signed 20 players on the holiday and it was as impressive as expected.

Early enrollees: Desmond Phillips Tuzar Skipper, Jhonny Williams (transferred summer 2015)

Running Back U

Toledo's so greedy with these players it's not even fair to anybody else. They already have plenty of returning talent on this year's roster, it's the same guys who carried the rock for UT last season: then they go ahead and grab three more high-ceiling prospects. Ronnie Jones and Nevone McCrimmon are both 3-star players by 247Sports. Jones is the 40-th best prospect out of the state of Pennsylvania and was flirting with 2,000 rushing yards with 29 TD his senior season at Central Catholic HS. Shakif Seymour has is a high 2-star with good size at 5-foot-11, 215 pounds, that rushed for over 1,000 yards in all three seasons in HS with 56 total TD and provides a lot of speed out of the backfield.

Cornerback, secondary depth

The highest-rated player to boost the Toledo secondary is Dedarallo Blue, a Florida native. He could actually play some linebacker too, but either way he'll have some high expectations from an old teammate of his in Aaron Covington if nothing else.

Keelen Roberts, also from Florida, has decent size at 6-foot-0 and has really good speed at the position. From West Bloomfield, Michigan comes Justin Clark who had five other offers, including some other MAC schools, Southern Ilinois, Temple and Army (per 247Sports). Another 2-star corner Zach Ford earned reported offers from Bowling Green and Miami.

Playmakers at WR, no QB though

The most popular receiver on the team is Neru N'Shaka, who could've ended up playing in the ACC (de-committed from Virginia) or with Wisconsin, but the 5-foot-10 receiver signed with Toledo. Calvin Jackson recently committed to Toledo and was also being looked at by Matt Campbell at Iowa State. Not a lot of height with them or 5-foot-11 Desmond Phillips, but the Rockets to also bring in a pair of 6-foot-5 tight ends in Keidren Davis and Nate Swart.

The class, however, does not feature a quarterback. That's not a problem though, seems how they already have five on the current roster and none of them are seniors.

Mike Jinks landed 20 players in his first recruiting class at BGSU. The group sets up the Falcons to become a ball-hawking defense and continue to be an explosive offense.

The Bowling Green Falcons are working with their third coach in four seasons, and while that lack of continuity can be a problem, the Falcons have become a MAC dynasty with three division titles and two conference championships in the last three seasons.

A big part of BGSU's rise has been their success on the recruiting trail, whether it's finding solid transfers such as Gehrig Dieter and Eilar Hardy or high school gems like Travis Greene and Roger Lewis.

This year, the Falcons have set themselves up for future success by addressing a real need in the defensive backfield and by adding depth at the offensive skill positions. The 20-man group includes three-star recruits at quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back. If Bowling Green is to continue their winning ways, this group will contribute heavily to that effort.

Playmaker U

Bowling Green focused most heavily on two position groups: wide receiver and defensive back. Of the 20 players signed today, the Falcons inked 11 between those two areas. This is also where BGSU signed arguably their most highly-touted players.

At wide receiver, the Falcons are losing much of their 2015 production. Most notably, sophomore Roger Lewis has departed for NFL pastures, and there are also rumors swirling about another possible departure. BGSU still has Ronnie Moore, Teo Redding and promising youngsters like Tim Tupa and Scott Miller, but clearly this was a position of need.

Those needs were filled with five receivers, including two three-star players. Darrion Landry, from Baytown, Texas, was one of the final additions to the class. In two years at Blinn Community College, he caught 69 passes for 1,349 yards and 12 touchdowns. if Blinn sounds familiar, it should -- that's where Super Bowl quarterback Cam Newton went to school in between stints with the Florida Gators and Auburn Tigers. Landry stands 6'2" and could be an immediate replacement for Lewis.

The other three-star receiver was Odell Spencer. Spencer is a native of Shaker Heights, Ohio who excelled on both sides of the ball in high school. BGSU coaches are already touting his elite speed and route-running skills. He could also be a candidate to play right away.

Bowling Green complimented those signings by landing six defensive backs, including two three-star athletes from Michigan. Ty Redding, from Warren, Mich., is the brother of BGSU wide receiver Teo Redding. At 6'2", he's tall, but he's only listed at 155, so he'll have to put on some weight. Redding posted 20 career interceptions and 16 career touchdowns in high school. He picked off eight passes as a junior and five others as a senior.

Armani Posey is a versatile threat from Detroit. He excelled on both sides of the ball and was the starting quarterback on a team that won a state championship in his senior year. The final play of the championship game was his 39-yard touchdown pass for a 40-38 win. BGSU's greatest need is at defensive back, so that is where one would expect him to play, but he could also be utilized on offense.

Midwestern Beef

Bowling Green's other area of focus was on the offensive line. BGSU's primary loss along their front was Alex Huettel, who started all 56 games of his career with the Falcons. To replace him and add depth, Mike Jinks signed four Midwestern linemen. The banner player of the four is three-star Caleb Bright from Urbandale, Iowa. Bright was named first-team all-Iowa by two different state publications and was placed on USA Today's Iowa All-State team. Bright also played for the North team in the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl.

Offense Is #1

Quarterback Matt Johnson is gone, and when you lose a guy who won MAC championships in his only two seasons as a starter, you know it's going to hurt.

BGSU has a capable replacement in James Knapke, who started the 2014 season and led BGSU to an Eastern Division title. They also have a highly-touted redshirt freshman in James Morgan. Still, the position needed depth and that is exactly what they earned in Elijah Cunningham. Cunningham is a three-star pocket passer from Springboro, Ohio. He was named conference offensive player of the year as a senior, when he threw for 3,000 yards, ran for 435 more and was responsible for a total of 41 touchdowns.

Cunningham is not likely to see the field in 2016, but the fight for playing time among these three quarterbacks should be fun. Regardless of what happens in 2016, the future at the position looks very bright for the Falcons.

Final Thoughts

Mike Jinks salvaged a potentially bad situation with Dino Babers' departure by keeping the commitment of Cunningham and adding some important skill-position players. Aside from what we discussed above, Jinks also signed a pair of running backs and a defensive lineman from Missouri

Perhaps the most notable thing about this class is how spread out the Falcons' recruiting footprint was. The 20 players came from nine states, including California, Florida and Texas. It was huge for BGSU to keep their pipeline to Florida open and even bigger that Jinks open one to Texas. He accomplished both but also potentially added footholds in Iowa, Missouri, Illinois and Pennsylvania.

Some might say that this class needed more players for the front seven on defense, and others might criticize the relative unknowns on the offensive line. However, the depth and quality of this groups, particularly at positions of need, is a big victory for BGSU.

It's time to meet the Neu Kids on the Block at Ball State.

Ball State had a down season last year, to say the least. After finishing 3-9 (2-6 MAC)and having their head coach Pete Lembo bolt for an assistant head coaching job at Maryland, the Cards found themselves in a Central Michigan 2015 situation, coachless and having to sign a new class.

Enter Mike Neu.

Following the same path as CMU did last season, Ball State hired a former alum that played the quarterback position in a relatively quick amount of time to save the class. The Cards will have to have patience and rebuild in order to create excitement in the fanbase again. So who's going to help with that?

We have the full list right here:

There's been a lot of excitement about this particular class of Cardinals, as 247Sports ranks it the 5th best in the conference. However, it's going to take a lot of time and coaching to make a better product on the field. An emphasis on both sides of the line and upgrading the skill positions is a good start for Coach Neu and the rest of his staff.

Lamar Anderson is certainly an intriguing prospect to look at, and projects to be on the offensive side of the ball as a skill position player. Another thing to note on the offensive side of the ball is that receivers in this class averages 6'4", 220 lbs., which should make life easy for current starter Riley Neal. One notable area is that there were no notable offers for running backs. It seems that the Cards are content with James Gilbert for now.

On defense, depth was an issue, and it was very well addressed. Ball State yielded one of the worst defenses in the nation last year, and the emphasis on stopping plays before they start has clearly been shown in their signings today. JUCO signees Chris Crumb and Reggie McCoy will be names to look out for in the near future.

While this class might not map out immediate success for Ball State, it could set up a foundation for the future successes of the program. We'll just have to wait and see how they develop in Coach Neu's system.
