Playing 13 seasons overseas and spending 10 years as an assistant coach, Michael Huger comes back to Bowling Green to be their head coach.

The Bowling Green Falcons have found their newest head coach in Michael Huger, a BGSU alumnus in the class of 1994. There will be a press conference Friday at noon inside the Stroh Center to introduce Huger.

"I couldn't be more excited about bringing Michael and Tonya back to Bowling Green," Kingston said. "Michael led this program as a player and team captain, and is the best prepared coach to lead this program to new heights. This team, this University and this community just got better." (per BGSU Athletics' press release)

Huger played at BGSU from 1989-93, but was most recently an assistant coach for the Miami Hurricanes, who made it to the NIT Championship game this past season. Spending four years there, where he's been able to help coach a team that clinched a No. 2 seed and made it to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament in 2012-13, after already winning ACC regular season and tournament championships. The following year, Miami went 17-16 the following year after losing all five starters. Huger's first year in Miami was in 2011, and they finished fourth in the ACC standings after winning nine in-conference match-ups.

Four years at Miami were preceded by four at George Mason. The Patriots were always included in postseason play, including making it to the NCAA Tournament in 2008 and 2011. In all eight years at Miami and George Mason, Huger coached under Jim Larranaga, his head coach from BGSU.

But the coaching roots all began at Longwood University in Virginia as an assistant under Mike Gillian, who also coached under Larranaga.

"It is a privilege and honor to be welcomed back home, building on the legacy at Bowling Green which began for me as a student-athlete and now as the Head Coach," Huger commented. "Bowling Green has always been a very special place for me and my family, as this is where I met my wife, Tonya. We are going to play a fun and exciting style of basketball. Our entire program will be out in the community. We will bring in high character student-athletes who will represent Bowling Green the right way. I want to create a home court advantage in the Stroh Center every single game like we had at Anderson Arena. We are BG!" (per BGSU Athletics)

After playing collegiately, Huger played professionally in Finland, Holland and Belgium from 1992-2005. He was the BGSU team MVP his senior season, was the Dutch MVP in 1996 scoring 25.3 points per game and earned first team All-Belgium honors in 2000 and 2004. He led his teams to the Belgium Cup championships in both of those seasons.

Huger is a New York City native and holds a bachelor's degree from BGSU in education.

"Although I have already apologized to my wife, my family, my players and coaches, I want to now publicly apologize to everyone else."

Chris Jans was recently fired from his role as the Bowling Green Falcons men's basketball head coach after his extremely inappropriate behavior at a bar in late March. One could imagine that it's been a rough time for Jans, and today an apology issued to USA Today was released.

"On March 21st I made a mistake for which I sincerely apologize. After our final loss of the season I went to a bar to be amongst friends, became intoxicated and proceeded to act in a manner which was inappropriate. I have tried to instill in every student I've coached the importance of taking responsibility for one's actions, and that is what I am trying to do now.

"I have been completely forthcoming and honest with the Bowling Green State University administration during this process. I immediately made efforts to apologize to those offended that evening including the woman who approached me that night to chastise me for my conduct. Although I have already apologized to my wife, my family, my players and coaches, I want to now publicly apologize to everyone else, including any one in the BGSU community who may have been affected by this matter — I am truly sorry.

"Finally, I want to thank BGSU for giving me the opportunity to be its head basketball coach. I plan to use the future months and years to improve myself as an individual and to show them that their faith in me as a coach, and a person, was not unwarranted."

Chris Jans' surprising dismissal from Bowling Green comes as a result of inappropriate bar behaviour following the Falcons' final game of the season.

Though Bowling Green has remained silent, as they promised in their morning release, more information surrounding Chris Jans' dismissal continues to leak out.

In the last few hours, it seemed that the unspecified "recent public conduct" in the official release was in fact drunken misbehaviour at a bar following Bowling Green's season-ending loss to Canisius.

Various members of the media began alluding to a cell phone video of the incident in question, and in the last hour WTOL's Jordan Strack has posted both the short video and an email from the filmer directed to Bowling Green Director of Athletics Chris Kingston.

The video is short but clearly shows a man making unwanted contact with a woman before a second woman confronts him. The email alleges that Jans' behaviour continued with other women throughout the night and escalated to the point where assistant coaches needed to intervene and this family decided to leave the bar rather than continue their night.

The picture above may be too small to read, but Deadspin, through a public records request, has acquired Bowling Green's official dismissal letter, which includes a more detailed account of the night.

Fox Sports Ohio's Zac Jackson has the latest on the dismissal of Bowling Green men's basketball coach Chris Jans:

A person involved in the incident told FOXSportsOhio.com that Jans acted "aggressively and inappropriately" toward at least one female bar patron on the night of March 21.

Jans was asked to leave after a woman slapped him, the source said. At least one of his assistant coaches was involved in getting Jans out of the bar.

At this point, no one has seen the cell phone video Bowling Green apparently relied on when deciding to fire Jans. But usually when someone gets hit at a bar and it's the person who gets hit that's thrown out, that means bad stuff was going on.

And based on chatter in the Twitterverse, being "that guy" at a bar may not have been a one-time thing for Jans.

If Jans had a history of getting "absolutely obliterated" at bars in town, it was likely just a matter of time before something happened like the incident that apparently led to his firing.

After an awesome turnaround season in Bowling Green, men's basketball head coach Chris Jans fired for "recent public conduct."

Chris Jans has officially been terminated from his head coaching position at Bowling Green.

BGSU Athletics promptly released a statement reading, "Jans was terminated following an investigation into his recent public conduct. The University concluded that Jans' public conduct failed to meet his obligations as a head coach and the expectations that BGSU Athletics has for its coaches." The press release also said that the school will not have any further comment on this issue.

Of course, we do not have the full story as to what may or may not have happened, but here's the very little bit of what we've gathered so far:
