The Mark Whipple era officially begins for the Massachusetts Minutemen on Saturday as they face off against the Boston College Eagles at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. Despite being much closer to Boston than Amherst, this will be a home game for the Minutemen.
Affectionately called the Battle of the Bay State, the Minutemen are looking to score their first non-conference win of their FBS tenure. This game also serves as a homecoming for Don Brown, current defensive coordinator for the Eagles, and former UMass head coach from 2004 through 2008.
Boston College hold all the bragging rights in this matchup, with a 19-5 record in 24 appearances. The last time these two faced off was 2011, when Boston College routed the Minutemen 45-17 in Chestnut Hill.
