2016 UMass Minutemen football recruiting: 3-star DB Cycoby Burch commits to Minutemen

UMass scored maybe their biggest commitment of the 2016 cycle yesterday as 3-star defensive back Cycoby Burch from Oak Ridge HS in Orlando, FL, committed to UMass over numerous other offers, including many from the Power 5.

The Massachusetts Minutemen made a huge splash on the recruiting front yesterday when they earned the verbal commitment of DB Cycoby Burch out of Oak Ridge High in Orlando. Burch, a 3-star safety, was at one point committed to Wisconsin earlier this year and chose the Minutemen over several other offers including West Virginia, Syracuse, North Carolina, and Indiana.

Burch was busy taking in congratulations from all over last night but was kind enough to take a moment to speak to Hustle Belt about his commitment. When we asked him what the biggest factor is his decision was, Burch didn't hesitate: "The coaches and the relationships I have with all of them," he told us. "Especially [Tight Ends] Coach [Steve] Costello and [Inside Linebackers] Coach [Charles] Walker, shouts out to them."

Burch, who plays safety for Oak Ridge, told us that he was recruited by UMass for the same position, and that when he gets to Amherst he's looking to further his education by studying sports management.

Burch is a big time playmaker from the safety spot and his instincts and athleticism will be a huge boost to the UMass secondary. The Minutemen have made some significant inroads in recruiting Florida, and Burch's decision to come to UMass just shows how well the Minutemen coaching staff is doing in the Sunshine State. It could certainly lead to more Florida athletes making the decision to commit to the University of Massachusetts as well.
